Our Moving Caterpillar

Our Moving Caterpillar

Our ‘Moving Caterpillar’ is taking part in this year’s Worcester City 10k.

Our Moving Caterpillar successfully made it to the finish line of this year’s Worcester City Runs 10k on Sunday 14 September - cheered on by crowds of waving flags, clapping hands and encouraging voices all along the route.

The team of 24 people – made up of foster carers, children with care experience, council staff, senior leaders and councillors – walked and ran the course together, linked as one long caterpillar in È«¹ú̽»¨ Fostering green.

The challenge symbolised the way families, communities, and services join forces to support children in care. Every step was taken in unison to show that when it comes to fostering, teamwork makes all the difference.

The event not only brought attention to the urgent need for foster carers across È«¹ú̽»¨ but also highlighted the joy and energy that comes from working as a team - a huge thank you to everyone in our caterpillar and everyone who supported us on the day!

See us in training

Our caterpillar just keeps on moving!

Five of the team took our green t-shirts out for a spin at Pitchcroft Park Run on Saturday, running and walking the way around the course together. The Run Director even gave us a shout out and cheer during the briefing!

Moments like this remind us why we’re doing it: every cheer, every smile, every step forward is about raising awareness of fostering and the difference it makes in children’s lives.

Now the countdown is really on… next stop: Worcester City Run 10k!

Keep your eyes peeled for the longest (and greenest!) caterpillar in town and don’t forget to give us a wave when you spot us!

Our caterpillar t-shirts have arrived!

Some of the group took them for a run around Pershore, getting some more practice in and helping to spread the word about fostering. A week to go now!

Diglis Playing Fields practice

We had some fun testing the equipment, trying different formations and commands, as well as experimenting with various paces for walking and running.

Pitchcroft racecourse practice

Lots more of us joined for the second practice session around Pitchcroft racecourse. A very successful session, lots of smiles, effectively acting on various commands and we even got complimented on our 'single file' by members of the public!

Lots of interest from other runners and people we passed about what we were doing, so we are hopeful that we will make a good impact at the 10k event.

Why we chose a caterpillar

We hope to form the message that supporting children in care is a collective effort involving many people and services.

Just like every leg of the caterpillar is needed to complete the race, every role counts in helping a child on their journey.

We also hope we will stand out enough to raise awareness of our urgent need for more foster carers in È«¹ú̽»¨.
