12 June - A38 Charford Road/Stoke Road junction closure
As part of the A38 Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme (A38 BREP), we will be carrying out improvement works at the A38 intersection with Charford Road.
To safely carry out these works, the intersection will be fully closed in all four directions between 9:00pm and 06:00am on the night of Thursday 12 June 2025. The closure will span from the Sherwood Road/Austin Road roundabout to the A38/New Road intersection. Please note that New Road will remain open in both directions.
This closure is required to decommission the existing traffic signals and install Urban64, an advanced, intelligent, and semi-permanent temporary traffic management system. Urban64 replicates the full functionality of permanent traffic signals and will help maintain traffic flow during the wider improvement programme.
We understand the inconvenience this may cause and will do everything possible to minimise disruption to residents and businesses.
13 to 14 June - Hanbury Turn junction closure
This closure will now not take place due to adverse weather conditions.
We plan to re-mobilise in approximately 2 weeks (before end of June), details to follow on this webpage shortly.
A38 Redditch Road Closure 鈥 9:00pm on 20 June to 06:00am on 23 June
To enable the next phase of the project鈥攖he installation of drainage crossings鈥攖he A38 Redditch Road will be closed in both directions between the Buntsford Drive Roundabout and the Austin Road / Sherwood Road Roundabout from:
21:00 on Friday 20 June to 06:00 on Monday 23 June 2025
A fully signed diversion route will be in place for the duration of the closure.
Please note that there may be some noisy activity, including mechanical digging, particularly on the evening of Friday 20 June. We are working closely with 全国探花 Regulatory Services and will take all reasonable steps to minimise noise and disruption.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete these essential upgrades.

Consultation on proposal to remove trees on Regents Park Road, adjacent to Royal Worcester Crescent, opposite Medici Road.
In preparation for the works associated with Scheme 6 of the A38 BREP (Regents Park Road) notices have installed at the eastern end of Regents Park Road, adjacent to Royal Worcester Crescent, opposite Medici Road. These notices contain information about the removal of vegetation required to facilitate the design proposals.
The removal of vegetation will be kept to a minimum to enable the improvements. Replanting of trees (native and specimen) will follow construction.
More information on how you can have your say can be found on the Why do we need to remove trees to deliver BREP? webpage.
The consultation period will close on Thursday 3 July 2025.

Changes to Oakalls Roundabout
A one lane closure has been implemented on the exit from the roundabout heading eastbound towards Redditch on the A448 Bromsgrove Highway.
This new one-lane layout will remain in place until September 2025 to allow for:
- widening the carriageway
- installing new push-button pedestrian crossings
- creating a new footpath link to Stratford Road, near the golf course
Traffic flow is not expected to be significantly affected. Thank you for your patience as we make these improvements.

Temporary road night closure on A38 Stoke Road: 9 to 11 May 2025
We will be undertaking essential construction work on the A38 Stoke Road as part of the A38 Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme (A38 BREP). These works are required to facilitate the installation of new gas mains south of the Aldi exit and form an integral part of the ongoing infrastructure improvements in the area.
To enable this work to take place safely, the A38 Stoke Road will be fully closed in both directions between the Stoke Road and Charford Road crossroads and the Sherwood Road/Austin Road roundabout.
The closure will be in effect from 9:00pm on Friday 9 May until 06:00am on Sunday 11 May 2025. Access to Aldi will be maintained via the existing exit, with vehicles permitted to turn right only onto the A38 northbound. Pedestrian access to and from Aldi, Coloursource, and Supablind will be available via the Aldi entrance throughout the closure period. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted from the point of closure to help manage traffic flow and reduce disruption. See the diversion route below.
We are committed to minimising the impact of these works on local residents and businesses and appreciates your patience and cooperation during this time. For any enquiries, please contact the team at: A38brep@worcestershire.gov.uk

April 2025
Stoke Road closures: April to December 2025
This update relates to important works planned for Stoke Road as part of the A38 Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme (A38 BREP). These works will help deliver long-term improvements to local infrastructure - but they will involve some temporary changes you need to know about.
Key dates and road closures
Full road closure: 22 April to 18 July 2025
Stoke Road will be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians in both directions between the Sherwood Road junction and the A38 junction.

This closure is essential to begin the Stoke Road bridge extension, including:
- diversion of existing water mains and electricity cables
- changes to the existing traffic island to support future traffic flow
One-way road closure from 18 July to 12 December 2025
After the full closure ends, Stoke Road will reopen one-way only, allowing eastbound vehicles to exit from the A38 onto Stoke Road.
During this time, westbound vehicles will not be able to access the A38 from Stoke Road. However, pedestrian access will remain via the southern footway.

This phase is required to allow the phased construction of the bridge extension.
What鈥檚 happening during the works?
The following stages will take place between July and December 2025:
- demolition of the existing bridge parapets and north-side spandrel wall
- installation of a temporary vehicle barrier
- partial removal of the eastbound carriageway over the bridge
- large-scale excavation works
- lifting primary bridge components into place
- backfilling, installing bridge elements, and casting in-situ concrete
- construction of the widened carriageway and new northern footway
Stoke Road will fully reopen to two-way traffic once all work is complete and safety checks have been finalised.
Traffic diversions
All diversion routes will be clearly signposted from the closure points.
During the full closure (22 April to 18 July 2025), the diversion route shown on the map below will be in place. Vehicles wishing to access Stoke Road from the A38, or vice versa, will be directed via New Road.
Vehicles heading south on the A38 will be directed down New Road before they reach Stoke Road. Any southbound vehicles who miss the signposts for the diversion down New Road will be directed to turn around at the A38/Austin Road/Sherwood Road roundabout and return to New road.
As no right turn is permitted onto New Road, vehicles heading north on the A38 will be directed to the Oakalls Roundabout where signs will instruct them to turn around and approach New Road on the southbound side of the carriageway.
During the one-way closure (18 July to 12 December 2025), the same diversion route will be in place for vehicles wishing to access the A38 from Stoke Road. However, vehicles wishing to access Stoke Road from the A38 will be able to use the A38/Stoke Road junction.

Pedestrian diversion
Pedestrian access will be available between Stoke Road on the east side of the closure and the A38 on the west side of the closure (and beyond), via Warwick Avenue.
During the full closure (22 April to 18 July 2025) pedestrians from Sherwood Road would need to cross Stoke Road and walk north alongside Warwick Avenue, use the cut-through from Warwick Road to the A38 and from there walk south alongside the A38 to the crossing point onto Charford Road and beyond. The pedestrian diversion route which will be in place between these dates is shown on the 'Full Road Closure' plan above.
During the one-way closure (18 July to 12 December 2025), pedestrians will be able to use the southern footway of Stoke Road to access the A38 and beyond. Please see the 'One-way Road Closure' plan above.
